Antti Niemi won a Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks a year ago, and on Monday night, he got up-close and personal with some of the offensive firepower that helped Chicago to that championship. Now a member of the San Jose Sharks, Niemi gave up three goals in the first 7:25 of the second period before he was chased to the bench by the now-rival Hawks.
Sharks Vs. Blackhawks: Antti Niemi Chased By Former Team; Chicago Rolls, 6-3
At that point in the game the Sharks actually held a 2-1 lead, but the early second period onslaught really seemed to get the Hawks going. By the end of the night, Patrick Sharp had four assists, Jonathan Toews had a goal and an assist and Marian Hossa had two goals. Niklas Hjalmarsson, Patrick Kane and Viktor Stalberg chipped in for thge Hawks.
Niemi was having a good season thus far against his former team, going 3-0 in games against them before Monday night.Technically speaking, 3-1 against your old team with a new contract extension in between isn’t all that bad of a year -- a year that’s not even over yet.
