On Friday night, the Tampa Bay Lightning have managed to sustain the three-goal lead they built over the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first period. After two periods, the Lightning now lead Game 2 of the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, 4-1.
The Pens finally managed to get on the board in the second. Nine minutes into the period, Craig Adams scored with an assist from Arron Asham to cut the deficit to 3-1. Seconds before the end of the period, though, the Lightning struck back as Martin St. Louis scored a power play goal. Simon Gagne was credit with his third assist of the game.
After starting out even in the shots on goal department, the Penguins are actually getting more opportunites, with 22 SOG to Tampa Bay’s 16. They’ve been plagued, however, with seven takeaways.
