The Chicago Blackhawks were given a golden chance to begin game two as Vancouver Canucks winger Jannik Hansen was whistled for holding, giving Chicago an early power play. Even with the added man, the Blackhawks were unable to pose a serious threat, registering just two shots during the power play, both of which were blocked. With two minutes expired, Chicago and Vancouver were back to even strength and still level on the scoreboard.
Blackhawks Vs. Canucks Score: Vancouver Takes 1-0 Lead On Jannik Hansen Goal
Hansen came charging out of the box and made a near-immediate impact, finding the back of the neck just a few seconds after the power play ended, giving Vancouver a 1-0 lead. Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin were credited with the assists after Hansen found himself free in front of the net and beat Corey Crawford near-post.
Defense prevailed over the rest of the period as the teams headed to the locker with Vancouver in the lead, 1-0. The statistics were relatively even as Chicago held a 7-6 advantage in shots, but couldn’t find the back of the net. Roberto Luongo made all six saves, but wasn’t under a severe amount of duress in the period.
Anaheim will begin the second period on a power play after Patrick Sharp was given two minutes for tripping just before the end of the first. Sharp still has 1:19 left in the box, giving Anaheim a jump-start on the second.
