The Chicago Blackhawks finally solved Roberto Luongo, but it may have been too late. The Vancouver Canucks draw first blood in the first period, then followed it up with another goal just 30 seconds into the second period to make it 2-0. Daniel Sedin found the back of the net near the end of the Canucks’ power play with a little help from Christian Ehrhoff and Ryan Kesler.
Blackhawks Vs. Canucks Score: Late Goal Gives Vancouver 3-1 Lead
For the first time in this series, spanning nearly five periods, Chicago found the back of the net. Just under 15 minutes into the second period, Ben Smith’s wrister, assisted by Bryan Bickell and Brian Campbell, broke the dry streak and gave Chicago a glimmer of hope as the Blackhawks cut the Vancouver lead to one, 2-1.
But with just 14 seconds to go in the period, Alexander Edler may have delivered the dagger for the Canucks as he connected on a laser one-time shot from just inside the zone, beating Corey Crawford to the top-right corner of the net to give Vancouver a 3-1 lead. Cody Hodgson and Alexandre Burrows were credited with the assists on Edler’s impressive shot.
Other than the scoreline, it’s been a fairly even game. Vancouver has 16 shots to Chicago’s 15 and each team has two penalties totally four penalty minutes apiece. But where it matters, on the scoreboard, Vancouver holds a 3-1 lead and is 20 minutes from taking a 2-0 series lead.
