Predators Vs. Ducks: Nashville’s Win Is Also Ottawa’s Gain

Nick Spaling scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period, as the Nashville Predators won their first playoff series in franchise history with a 4-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks in Game 6 of this Western Conference quarterfinal.

Spaling also lit the lamp in the first period for the Predators, who won in overtime in Game 5 to take a 3-2 series lead. Steve Sullivan and David Legwand also scored. Legwand was the first ever player to be drafted by the Nashville Predators, adding even more karmic enjoyment to the moment.

The victory is a huge one for Predators fans but there’s another fanbase excited for the outcome as well...Ottawa Senator fans.

As part of the Feb. 10 deal, which sent Fisher to Nashville for the Predators’ 2011 first-round draft pick, the Senators, as a result of the series win, will also get a third-round pick in 2012. It will become a second-rounder if the Predators win another series and if Fisher plays four games in each series.

Nashville now awaits the winner of the Chicago-Vancouver series as well as the LA-Sharks series to see who they meet in the second round of the Stanley Cup Finals.
