If Corey Perry wasn't under serious consideration for the Hart Trophy before Wednesday night, there's no doubt that a lot of writers are waking up this morning with different ideas about their votes. Perry scored three goals vs. the San Jose Sharks, boosting his season total to 50, en route to a huge 6-2 win.
Sharks Vs. Ducks: Corey Perry Reaches 50 Goals, Helps Anaheim To Huge Win
When you're considering this MVP vote, of course, you tend to think it should go to a player on a team that's a solid lock for the playoffs -- maybe a team like Washington or Vancouver or Detroit or Philadelphia. But the plain facts are that without Perry, who has now scored 19 goals in just the last 14 games, the Ducks likely wouldn't be in the rosey playoff position they now find themselves in.
Thanks to Perry and the game, Anaheim sits in relative comfort with the No. 7 position. The only team that could catch them at this point would be the No. 10 Dallas Stars, and the magic number in that situation is down to two points.
