Lightning Vs. Capitals, Game 2 Score: Alex Ovechkin’s Late Heroics Send Game To Overtime, Tied 2-2

Even early in Game 2 when the Washington Capitals weren’t getting much going in terms of offense, Alex Ovechkin was the guy who still looked like he would break through for the home team against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

So, it took a while and all, but Ovechkin finally did score with just 1:07 left in the third period to send the contest to overtime. He was lost in coverage in front of the net and when the Capitals crashed Dwayne Roloson’s crease, the puck popped out to No. 8 and he made sure he didn’t miss the back of the net.

Earlier in the third period, Martin St. Louis pulled the Lightning ahead of the Caps with his fifth goal of the postseason.

Now we head to overtime, and you have to think that the Capitals have all the momentum in front of their home crowd. That’s just the thing, though. The Caps were in total control after the way the played the second period, too, and the Lightning came out in the third and were able to grab the tie-breaking goal. We’ll see what happens in OT.
