The Vancouver Canucks came into Game 3 with all guns a blazing, not allowing the Nashville Predators to get a shot on goal for the first 5:43 of the game. In that time, the Canucks managed six shots on goal and even outshot the Predators 9-1 in the first 9:38 of the game. Then the Canucks managed to get on the powerplay.
Canucks Vs. Predators, Game 3: David Legwand’s Shorthanded Goal Gives Nashville 1-0 Lead In First
Jerred Smithson took a roughing penalty at 9:38 of the first period and the Nashville Predators managed to score a shorthanded goal to give the Predators the only goal in the first period. Forward David Legwand created a turnover in the offensive zone and even drew a penalty on the play. After passing the puck to Nick Spaling, Legwand went to the front of the net and received a pass from Ryan Suter and managed to beat goaltender Roberto Luongo over the shoulder.
The Canucks have outshot the Predators 15-8 in the period and Nashville's Pekka Rinne has made some impressive saves in the first period to preserve the shutout thus far into the game for the Predators. Vancouver's Roberto Luongo has seven saves on eight shots thus far in the game.
These two teams have not allowed many goals in this series, so an early goal for the Predators is a good omen for things to come in Nashville’s first home game in the month of May.
