Robyn Regehr was looking to explore his options when it came to waiving his no-movement clause for a deal with the Buffalo Sabres. One of his few options closed on Friday night as the San Jose Sharks made a play for Brent Burns of the Minnesota Wild so Regehr officially waived his NMC late Friday night.
Calgary Flames Deal Robyn Regehr To Buffalo Sabres
The deal was announced before the 2nd round of the draft started, with the Calgary Flames sending Regehr, forward Ales Kotalik, and a 2012 2nd round pick to the Buffalo Sabres for the rights for defenseman Chris Butler, and Paul Byron. Kotalik has some experience with the Sabres organization as played for Buffalo for six and a half seasons before he was traded to the Edmonton Oilers in 2009.
Chris Butler is a solid young defenseman who has been caught in a numbers game on the Sabres blueline. Butler has played in 155 games over three seasons for Buffalo with five goals and 36 points in that timeframe. Paul Byron is a offensive prospect that has eight NHL games in his career.
