Dale Tallon continues handing out money on July 1 in a furious attempt to get the Florida Panthers to the cap floor. The latest recipient? Tomas Fleischmann, formerly of the Colorado Avalanche.
Tomas Fleischmann Gets Paid Too As Florida Panthers Continue Handing Out Money
According to Bob McKenzie of TSN, the Panthers signed the 27-year-old winger to a four year, $18 million contract on Friday, the third such forward to receive a deal with an average annual value of $4.5 million in this free agent year.
Do you think Tomas Fleischmann is equal to Erik Cole or Ville Leino? Do you think either of those players are worth $4.5 million per season? All part of the madness this year, and really, it's probably all Tallon's fault. His team is still below the cap floor despite adding Ed Jovonovski, Marcel Goc, Kris Versteeg, Scottie Upshall, Jose Theodore and now Fleischmann to their books in one day.
When a team can spend that much money -- rather, when a team has to spend that much money just to get cap compliant, it drives up the price on everybody. That’s a lot of what we’re seeing today, and it probably won’t end soon.
