Team USA will play their second game of the 2013 World Junior Championship in Ufa, Russia, when they challenge the host nation’s representative on Friday morning.

Participating in their second game in as many days, Team USA will be entering the contest after a dominating victory over Germany on Thursday. Registering eight unanswered goals, from eight different players, Team USA managed to hold the struggling German’s scoreless, winning the contest by a final score of 8-0.
The shutout was a joint effort by Team USA goaltenders John Gibson and Jon Gillies. Gibson played the first two periods (registering 19 saves over that span), while Gillies closed out the final 20 minutes by stopping seven shots.
Entering play on Friday, Team USA is tied with Team Canada for first place in Group B, as both teams managed to earn three points in their opening games (Canada defeated Germany by a final score of 9-3 on Wednesday).
Team Russia managed to earn a victory in their first game of the tournament, but required overtime to do so. After allowing Slovakia to tie the contest at two in the final minute of regulation, Team Russia managed to take advantage of a power play in the final seconds of overtime to steal the win.
However, because the win came in overtime, Russia only earned two points. This might become a factor in the final standings of group play.
Friday’s contest between Team USA and Team Russia will be broadcast live in the United States at 9 a.m., ET on the NHL Network and will also be streamed on NHL.com. The game will be re-broadcast at 8 p.m., ET and 10:30 p.m., ET.
The game will be carried live in Canada on TSN.
