The Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals continued their low-scoring series in the first period of Game 2. After 60-plus minutes of scoreless hockey on Thursday, the clubs head to the first intermission of Game 2 in another scoreless tie. There was a quick pace to the first period, with each team peppering Tim Thomas and Braden Holtby. But both goaltenders continued their impressive play to keep it scoreless.

Washington went on the power play two separate times but Boston did a solid job of killing off both chances, and Brad Marchand even had a good look at a shorthanded goal on the second power play. But Holtby stuffed the wrister from a wide-open Marchand. The second power play was particularly ugly and ineffective for Washington.
Boston's Benoit Pouliot put a slick move on Mike Green, dancing around the Caps' defenseman and drawing a hooking penalty to put the Bruins on the power play. Washington, however, successfully killed off the man-advantage without much trouble.
The Capitals have already put more shots on Thomas than they did in the first 40 minutes of Game 1 on Thursday. Thomas has now shut out the Caps for 80-plus minutes of action in the series. In the first period, both Green and Alexander Semin ripped shots from the point that the All-Star goaltender stuffed in front. Thomas picked up the puck with traffic in front on the Green slap shot. He then promptly made a nice glove save on a Green wrister from center-ice with plenty of commotion in front of the crease. The save on Semin came at the end of the period, blocking it with Brooks Laich providing the screen and then Thomas cleaning up the short rebound. Video of the Thomas saves below:
