The Ottawa Senators announced on Wednesday afternoon that the club has come to terms on a four-year extension with forward Zack Smith worth $7.55 million. Smith will be entering the final year of a two-year contract in 2012-13 and would have been a restricted free agent next offseason.

The extension will have an annual average value of $1,887,500 against the salary cap and will run through the 2016-17 season.
Chosen with the No. 79 overall selection in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Senators, the 24-year-old Saskatoon native played in all but one game over the course of the 2011-12 season and registered career highs in practically every offensive category (with the lone exception being power play goals).
In 152 career games, Smith has collected 20 goals and 18 assists for 38 points.
