Rick Nash injury: Rangers send forward back to New York

Rick Nash has returned to New York. He sustained a head injury against the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night.

The New York Rangers sent forward Rick Nash back to New York on Thursday morning, the team announced Thursday afternoon.

The club didn't acknowledge the rational, but it's seemingly associated with the head injury Nash sustained against the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night. He was hit by San Jose defenseman Brad Stuart in the first period, which resulted in Stuart's elbow connecting with Nash's head. Nash played seven more shifts after the hit, but was unable to return to the contest after the first intermission. In total, the forward registered 5:53 of ice time over the span of nine shifts.

Nash stated during a post-game interview that he had a headache and believed that Stuart’s hit was a head shot. The Rangers have yet to update Nash’s situation. He sustained a concussion last season after a hit from Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic in February, and he was able to play in two games after the incident before missing four games due to the injury. The team did not acknowledge the injury as a concussion at the time.

Stuart was suspended three games by the NHL for the hit.
