Jimmy Howard injury: Jonas Gustavsson to make 2nd straight start Tuesday

Jonas Gustavsson will start in place of Jimmy Howard for a second consecutive game.

Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard is expected to miss a second consecutive start with a bruised hand when the team hosts the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night.

Howard stated after Monday afternoon's game against the Boston Bruins that he was unlikely to play on Tuesday but that he could return for the team's game against the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday. The injury was sustained during Saturday night's game against the Philadelphia Flyers. Howard thought that he might be able to play on Monday afternoon but ultimately determined that he was unable to do so. With Howard out of the lineup, backup Jonas Gustavsson made his first start of the season.

Gustavsson allowed two goals on 30 registered shots on goal, which helped propel the Red Wings to a 3-2 victory. Gustavsson is expected to make the start in place of Howard on Tuesday night. In two career appearances against the Blue Jackets, Gustavsson has registered a 3.04 goals-against average with a .893 save percentage.
