It was a pretty big shock this past offseason when Daniel Alfredsson left the Ottawa Senators and signed a one-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings in free agency. Alfredsson, after all, had been the face of the Ottawa franchise for years and is the best player in team history.

Daniel Alfredsson scored his first goal as a member of the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night, blasting a slap shot past Sergei Bobrovsky.


It seemed that he would either spend another year with the Senators, or retire. Obviously, it didn’t work out that way.
Instead, he joined the Red Wings and through the first six games of the season has been a welcome addition, pitching in with five assists on the season. On Tuesday, he finally found the back of the net when he blasted this slap shot past Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky for his first goal as a member of the Red Wings.
