Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scores in return

The Nuge is back, and he sparked a third period rally for the Oilers.

Playing in his first game since last April 19, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored his first goal of the season for the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night.

Nugent-Hopkins returned to the Oilers lineup after missing the first two games of the season recovering from offseason shoulder surgery and immediately made an impact, sparking a third period rally that saw the team score four goals in seven minutes to erase a 3-0 deficit.

He is not only coming off an injury-shortened season, but it was also a terribly unlucky season when it came to his production as he was held to just four goals on 78 shots in 40 games. Â Provided he can stay healthy he should be a nice bounce back candidate in 2013-14.

Even with his poor luck last season the Oilers were still confident enough in his ability to sign him to a seven-year, $42 million contract extension.
