Ryan Callahan exits game after taking stick to face

Ryan Callahan had to leave Monday’s game after taking a stick to the face in the second period.

Ryan Callahan made his 2013-14 debut for the New York Rangers on Monday night after undergoing shoulder surgery over the summer.

He played just a little more than five minutes against the Los Angeles Kings until he had to leave the game after suffering a cut to his mouth during a collision with Anze Kopitar in the second period.

In 45 games last season, Callahan scored 16 goals to go with 15 assists, but his value goes well beyond just the point totals as he’s also the Rangers’ best defensive forward and penalty killer.

Update: Callahan returned for the third period of Monday’s game.
