For the second straight game Thomas had an early exit for Florida Panthers, this time after giving up two goals on the first five shots he faced. He was lifted in his previous start after giving up five goals on 28 shots in what turned out to be a 7-0 loss to the St. Louis Blues.
Thomas sat out the entire 2012-13 season to spend more time with his family, friends, and faith only to return to the NHL this season, at the age of 39, to join the Panthers. He was in camp on a tryout contract and quickly earned a one-year deal to split time with Jakob Markstrom.
In his first game he looked like the goalie that was at the top of the NHL prior to his sabbatical. Over the past two games he’s looked like a goalie whose best days have already passed him by.
At least that’s what he looked like on this goal by Braydon Coburn midway through the first period to give the Flyers a 2-0 lead in Craig Berube’s coaching debut.
Update: The Panthers are saying that Thomas suffered a “lower body injury” and that he is not expected to return, via Panthers beat writer George Richards.
