Ray Emery named third star of game after giving up 4 goals on 15 shots, fighting
Giving up four goals on 15 shots is enough to earn a player third star honors, just so he’s a goalie that beats up another goalie.
Why?
OK, we have Capitals forward Joel Ward in the top spot. He had a hat trick and was generally pretty awesome. Makes sense. A well deserved honor. Nicklas Backstrom, playing without Alex Ovechkin in the lineup, added three points including a pair of goals to continue his strong season. Seems pretty legit.
And then ...
Wait. Is that ... Yes! That's Flyers goalie Ray Emery earning third star honors. As the numbers show, he allowed four goals on 15 shots after replacing Steve Mason early in the second period. And he is your third star because he skated the length of the ice and beat up Capitals goalie Braden Holtby.
Just before the game ended, Flyers beat writer Frank Seravalli Tweeted this.
I have the three stars vote tonight. Is it screwed up to give one to Ray Emery... you know, just for the hell of it?
