Steve Downie injury: Taken to hospital following fight

Steve Downie had to be taken to the hospital following his first game back with the Flyers.

It was just two days ago that the Philadelphia Flyers re-acquired their former first-round draft pick, Steve Downie, by sending Max Talbot to the Colorado Avalanche.

Downie spent parts of two seasons with the Flyers before spending the majority of his career with Tampa Bay and Colorado was brought in to help bring some life to a struggling team that is going in the wrong direction.

His first game back with the team did not go well for anybody wearing orange and black, including Downie.

General manager Paul Holmgren announced after the Flyers' 7-0 loss to the Capitals that Downie was taken to the hospital for further evaluation after he suffered a concussion during a second period fight with Aaron Volpatti.

Vincent Lecavalier was also injured during the third period line brawl, reportedly suffering a facial injury and possibly some lost teeth.
