Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov is facing charges of third-degree assault in relation to a domestic dispute being alleged by his girlfriend, Evgenia Vavrinyuk. Varlamov will have a chance to prove his innocence when he stands before a judge on Dec. 2.
Semyon Varlamov’s play shows ‘truth is on his side,’ says Team Russia GM
Russian national team general manager Alexei Kasatonov reportedly stated that Varlamov’s play is an indication of his innocence.
If Russian national team general manager Alexei Kasatonov was leading the defense, Varlamov’s play would be used as evidence to Varlamov’s innocence, via R-Sport:
“Semyon’s in good form now, continuing to show that he’s one of the best goaltenders in the NHL and showing with his game that the truth is on his side,” Russian national team general manager Alexei Kasatonov said on the website of the SKA St. Petersburg KHL team.
In another apparent reference to the domestic abuse charge, Kasatonov said that Varlamov “is not that kind of guy and would not be capable of such a dirty deed.”
While R-Sport has transcribed the statement into English, the translation dynamic is always a fun component to these types of reports.
Varlamov has appeared in nine contests since turning himself in at the end of October and has registered a 5-4-0 record over that span. He has held opponents to two goals or less in six of those nine games.
