Carl Hagelin is fast

Two of the Penguins’ young defensemen found out just how far Rangers forward Carl Hagelin is.

Injuries and a suspension have forced the Pittsburgh Penguins to put a rather inexperienced defense on the ice over the past couple of weeks. On Tuesday night Brian Dumoulin and Simon Despres, two of the replacements on call from the AHL, had a lesson in just how fast the NHL game can be.

Specifically, just how fast New York Rangers forward Carl Hagelin is when he picks up the puck in full flight.

It’s not like Dumoulin and Despres are anchors out there either. Both of them have a decent set of wheels, and neither one was any match for Hagelin as he picked up the puck at his own blue line and just blew past everybody.

The goal was Hagelin’s seventh of the season and tied the game, 1-1.
