After Mike Weaver hit him in the back dangerously close to the boards, Milan Lucic responded fiercely and swiftly, cross-checking Weaver in the back and then going for his head while Weaver was down on the ice.
Bruins vs. Panthers: Milan Lucic cross-checks Mike Weaver
Lucic was furious with Weaver after being hit from behind into the boards, and responded with several cross-checks.
Despite what the Florida broadcasters in the video above say about it, the Mike Weaver hit did not look “clean” at all. It was a cross-check in the lower back, pushing Lucic’s face right into the boards. That’s not even CLOSE to acceptable.
Weaver didn’t get a penalty on the play, presumably because the officials on the ice didn’t see what he did, or possibly because they are idiots. Lucic got a two-minute penalty for roughing, two for cross-checking and a ten minute misconduct shortly after for being unacceptably angry.
I’d be mad too. Lucic’s response wasn’t okay, since cross-checking someone in the back and going for their head is dangerous stuff, but his anger at Weaver’s initial hit from behind is understandable.
The Bruins won the game 4-1.
