James Wisniewski injury: Blue Jackets defenseman breaks bone in foot

James Wisniewski will miss an extended period of time due to a broken bone in his foot.

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman James Wisniewski will miss an extended period of time due to a broken bone in his foot, according to head coach Todd Richards on Tuesday morning.

The injury was sustained during the team's game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday. Other than Richards' vague prognosis, no timetable has been released on when Wisniewski could potentially return.

This latest occurrence comes on the heels of Wisniewski suffering a concussion against the Detroit Red Wings on Feb. 2. Wisniewski fell backwards into the endboards near the start of the second period. Earlier in the contest, he had scored a goal that tied the game at one.

After sustaining the injury, Wisniewski was evaluated by trainers and left the playing surface with the aide of two teammates. Richards identified the injury as a concussion post-game.

Wisniewski missed eight days with the injury, but returned to game action on Feb. 10 against the Edmonton Oilers. He would play in six games before sustaining the broken foot. As of Tuesday afternoon, he is tied for third on the team in total points with nine (three goals, six assists).
