Derek Roy injury: Stars center takes a shot to the foot, leaves game

Roy tried to skate a few minutes later but left the ice after a short time.

Bad news for the Dallas Stars on a couple of fronts. Derek Roy (who scored earlier on Friday) has left the game after blocking a point-blank shot with his foot.

Roy hobbled off to the dressing room and didn’t emerge until a few minutes later, when he took a very short shift and then immediately went back to the locker room.

The Dallas Stars have yet to go a full few weeks this season with their top six intact. Jamie Benn, Ray Whitney and Roy himself have all missed time this season due to some sort of ailment. Losing Roy for an extended period of time would hurt their chances at making a run at the playoffs.

On the flip side of that discussion, it also hurts Roy’s trade value. Roy has been a hot name in recent trade rumors over the last few weeks, but you can count him out of any trades if he’s injured.

We’ll keep you updated if any more news on Roy becomes available.
