Panthers vs. Devils: Kovalchuk and Sestito injured in wild few minutes

Neither player has emerged from the locker room.

Crazy couple of minutes in New Jersey, as the Devils lost both their top scorer and one of their recent additions to injuries in the span of a few minutes.

Ilya Kovalchuk was driving to the net before he lost an edge and went sliding hard into the boards. It looked at first like he had jabbed himself with his own stick, but replays showed that he collided shoulder and head first with the endboards. After writhing on the ice for a few seconds he managed to skate off the ice into the locker room in some considerable pain.

The Devils barely had time to register the fact they lost their star player before Colby Robak shoved Tim Sestito off his skates into the boards headfirst. Tom Kostopoulos jumped Robak and a huge scrum ensued as Sestitio also writhed on the ice in pain. Robak was ejected for his hit.

There still hasn’t been any word on either player’s status.
