The Anaheim Ducks have now lost two games in a row to the Detroit Red Wings by a combined score of 7-2, and frustration was evident for Anaheim's stars late in Sunday's game.
Red Wings vs. Ducks: Three misconducts in final minute for Anaheim
Frustration boiled over for the Ducks in the final minute of their loss against the Red Wings.
Anaheim had the better of the play in the third period, and out-shot Detroit twelve to five in the final frame, but the Ducks blew their chance to tie the game at two in the final minute when team captain Ryan Getzlaf, former Hart Trophy winner Corey Perry, and the ageless Teemu Selanne all got misconduct penalties at 19:26.
The Ducks stars were frustrated with the game’s officiating, and let the officials know about it as time wound down. Regardless of how the game was being called, however, this was a bonehead move from three of the team’s best players. They were only down a single goal and had been seriously pressuring the Red Wings, but sunk their own chances with the triple-misconduct.
The lack of discipline by the Ducks also inspired some Twitter mockery from Winging It In Motown:
There's your Anaheim Ducks leadership... all serving ten-minute misconducts for whining because they're losing.
