These are dark days for the New York Rangers. After the briefest of brief runs of good form following Rick Nash's return to injury, the preseason favorites to win the East have continued their slide in the standings.
Sean Avery tweets Rangers should fire ‘clown’ Tortorella
Derek Stepan came to his coach’s defense.
Following yet another loss (this time a 3-0 shutout in Montreal), former Ranger pest Sean Avery tweeted his displeasure with coach John Tortorella.
Fire this CLOWN, his players hate him and wont play for his BS.... @imseanavery is #winning
— Sean Avery (@imseanavery) March 30, 2013
Strong words from a player who was essentially unable to find employment anywhere else in the league other than Tortorella’s Rangers, but that’s beside the point. Did Avery’s tweet reveal unrest in the locker room that we don’t know about?
Derek Stepan doesn't think so. He stood up for his coach after the game:
“But I don’t agree with (Avery’s tweet) at all, no. I think it’s safe to say that all 23 guys on our roster would say that’s not the case.”
