Boston Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron potentially could return to the lineup against the Ottawa Senators on Monday night.
Bergeron has missed six games since sustaining a concussion after being hit in the head by Senators forward Colin Greening on April 2. The team has compiled a 3-3-0 record during that span.
Bergeron stated on Monday morning that he feels confident about his ability to play. However, he and the team believe it’s best not to rush a return. Obviously, with the Bruins on the verge of clinching a playoff berth, Bergeron’s ability to contribute in the postseason is far more beneficial than at the end of the regular season.
Head coach Claude Julien stated Bergeron’s status would be determined later on Monday. The decision will involve input from team doctors, trainers, coaches and Bergeron.
During morning skate, Bergeron was slotted on the first line with Milan Lucic and Tyler Seguin.
Bergeron is largely considered one of, if not the most important pieces of the Bruins forward group. Capable of playing in all three phases of the game, Bergeron is one of the best face-off men in the league. Entering play on Monday night, he is ranked No. 1 in face-off winning percentage (61.5 percent).
