Midway through the first period of the game between the Minnesota Wild and the San Jose Sharks, Dan Boyle went coast-to-coast and turned Ryan Suter inside out to score a 5-on-3 powerplay goal:
Wild vs. Sharks: Dan Boyle owns Ryan Suter
Boyle got the better of Suter and the rest of the Wild in a matchup of star defensemen.
Boyle, an elite, but aging offensive defenseman, was the subject of intense rumors leading up to the NHL trade deadline, but in the end, remained with the Sharks. Watching this play, it’s not surprising that he was such a coveted asset. Suter’s no slouch -- Boyle is just THAT good. Before tonight’s contest, Boyle had five goals and eleven assists through 33 games.
The Sharks have the longest active winning streak in the NHL, having won their last five in a row. The last team to beat them? The Minnesota Wild.
