Penguins vs. Islanders Game 1 update: Isles collapse against Pittsburgh attack

Pittsburgh has taken a commanding 5-0 lead in Game 1.

USA TODAY Sports

As this game goes on, the talent gap between the Islanders and Penguins becomes more and more apparent. Not even talent, really. The Penguins are just far more experienced when it comes to playoff hockey.

They've cashed in on that experience, pushing the Islanders around to the tune of a 5-0 lead. Kris Letang and Pascal Dupuis scored within 34 seconds of each other to start the second period, chasing Evgeni Nabokov from the net he's struggled to defend on Wednesday. For those keeping score at home, Nabby gave up four goals on 15 shots. His backup, Kevin Poulin, didn't fare much better. Poulin gave up a softie to Tanner Glass to make it a 5-0 lead.

Pittsburgh has just set the tone tonight in all areas of the game. They've been physical (John Tavares has suffered some bumps and bruises tonight) and relentless with their attack. The young Islanders just can't keep up.

There is some bad news for Pittsburgh. James Neal left early in the second period and hasn't returned. He suffered a concussion earlier this season.
