Valtteri Filppula injury: Wings forward out after apparent Andrew Shaw slew-foot

Filppula is on crutches and isn’t likely to return.

Andrew Shaw seems to be playing his role of "pest" quite well, and it cost the Red Wings one of their top scorers in the process.

As the ongoing play was being whistled off, Shaw found himself sandwiched between Valtteri Filppula and Henrik Zetterberg in front of the Detroit bench. Shaw gave Zetterberg a little shove, and Filppula stepped in to defend his teammate. Shaw turned around, shoved Filppula and appeared to slew-foot him to the ice.

Flippula

Filppula hobbled to the locker room and is apparently on crutches. Was Shaw intentionally trying to injure him? Hard to tell, but it’s certainly worth debating, considering Detroit will be without one of their best players in an elimination game.
