The New York Islanders earned a big win in Game 4 against the Pittsburgh Penguins, but may have suffered a big loss: Andrew MacDonald left the game after taking a shot off the hand in the second period, and the earliest report is it may be a broken hand, according to Arthur Staple of Newsday.
Andrew MacDonald injury: Islanders defenseman may have broken hand
If he’s out for the postseason, it’s a big loss in the New York Islanders’ attempt to upset the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Islanders are officially calling it an “upper body” injury, the vague nomenclature of choice in the NHL.
MacDonald is a relative unknown among casual NHL fans, but he plays a key role for the Islanders and led them in ice time during the regular season. He partners with Travis Hamonic as the team's "shutdown" defensive pair, usually assigned to check the opposition's best players.
MacDonald left the game midway through the second period, ironically getting a penalty but heading to the locker room instead of the box. The call on the play was holding, but his holding arm appeared to block a shot with his hand.
The Islanders drew the series even at two apiece with a 6-4 win.
