Darryl Sutter has to be pleased with his team's effort in the second period, but the Kings still trail Chicago 2-1 heading into the final twenty minutes.
Blackhawks vs. Kings Game 5 update: Dwight King’s shortie pulls L.A. within one
The Hawks still lead 2-1 after two periods, but Los Angeles is playing much better.
They might not have played so well if Andrew Shaw had actually connected on this hit on Mike Richards. Instead, the glancing blow to one of their best players seemed to energize the Kings.
Los Angeles controlled sustained possession in the Chicago end to begin the period, a far cry from the trend in the first frame. For a moment it seemed like momentum would shift back to the Blackhawks when Dustin Penner swatted a fly interfered with Dave Bolland.
But then Dwight King (of all people) scored a shorthanded goal to bring the Kings within one goal.
Great penalty killing, improved puck possession...even Jonathan Quick upped his game in the second period.
If L.A. keeps this up, they could still save their season in the third.
