And you thought you could go to bed soon. A late goal in the dying seconds of the third period by Mike Richards allowed the Kings to tie Game 5 at 3-3, and we're headed to overtime.
Blackhawks vs. Kings Game 5 update: Kings send it to OT with last-ditch goal
Los Angeles forced overtime with a last-second goal by Mike Richards.
Let's try to process what just happened. By all accounts, the Blackhawks should've taken a 3-1 lead in the first two minutes. At first glance it seemed like Johnny Oduya shanked this puck wide.
Nope. Just Jonathan Quick doing Jonathan Quick things. Bryan Bickell took a penalty at the tail-end of that sequence, and Anze Kopitar cashed in to tie the game.
For awhile it looked like we were headed to overtime, but that was before Patrick Kane beat Quick from in tight with four minutes left. Surely Chicago would hold on!
They almost did. The Blackhawks were called for icing with 14.4 seconds left, and the Kings won the face-off in the Chicago zone, leading to a Mike Richards game-tying goal.
Welp. To overtime we go.
