Joffrey Lupul is broken again

The Maple Leafs forward is out indefinitely with a broken bone in his right hand.

It's Halloween and you have to wonder if Joffrey Lupul had a black cat cross his path.

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced that Lupul would be out indefinitely after he broke a bone in his right hand during practice on Thursday.

Lupul’s injury history during his NHL career is extensive and his time in Toronto has been fraught with different ailments.

Lupul sustained a separated shoulder injury that ended his season in 2011-12. He broke his forearm in Jan. 2013 and missed nearly two months of action. Less than a month after returning from that he sustained a concussion that put him out for 10 days. Last season he missed a total of 13 games after dealing with a bruised foot, strained groin and a knee injury that ended his season in April.

Whether it was a black cat, a broken mirror, walking under a ladder or a Voodoo curse -- Lupul just hasn’t been able to stay healthy. He hasn’t had a season where he played 70+ games since 2008-09 when he played 79. Even in the lockout-shortened 2013 season he played 16 of 48 games.

Carter Ashton replaced Lupul in the Leafs lineup to make his first appearance of the season.
