A power outage knocked out the lights at SAP Center in San Jose just minutes before the Sharks and Kings took the ice to warm up for Game 1 of their first-round series. Several writers, including Kings beat writer Helene Elliott and CSN’s Ray Ratto, reported hearing loud “bangs” and “booms.”
Power outage in San Jose before Sharks vs. Kings game
Things got weird in San Jose just before the Kings and Sharks opened their Western Conference playoff series.
And now a loud boom that wasn't supposed to happen. This game will be delayed while we all die horribly. Please resume watching COL-MIN.
— Ray Ratto (@RattoCSN) April 18, 2014 Just heard a loud bang in SAP Center. Not sure that was supposed to happen.

— LA Kings (@LAKings) April 18, 2014 Jumbotron a little funky right now at SAP Center pic.twitter.com/Kug6OohMFf
— Curtis Pashelka (@CurtisPashelka) April 18, 2014 Emergency lighting on right now, but that's it. pic.twitter.com/V6TxbP3Jxb
— Brodie Brazil (@brodiebrazilCSN) April 18, 2014 The regular lights eventually started to come back on, but the scoreboard and sound systems are apparently still down. No source of the outage has been revealed yet, but given the temperature in San Jose on Thursday it seems that the power supply might have been working overtime to keep the ice in playing condition.
Source of the problems? RT @brodiebrazilCSN: Big effort here tonight with de-humidifiers to make the ice perfect pic.twitter.com/pgvS1Fm24W
— Kevin Kurz (@KKurzCSN) April 18, 2014 Either way, a power outage isn’t the way any team wants to start the playoffs. Bad signs and all of that.
