Power outage in San Jose before Sharks vs. Kings game

Things got weird in San Jose just before the Kings and Sharks opened their Western Conference playoff series.

A power outage knocked out the lights at SAP Center in San Jose just minutes before the Sharks and Kings took the ice to warm up for Game 1 of their first-round series. Several writers, including Kings beat writer Helene Elliott and CSN’s Ray Ratto, reported hearing loud “bangs” and “booms.”

The regular lights eventually started to come back on, but the scoreboard and sound systems are apparently still down. No source of the outage has been revealed yet, but given the temperature in San Jose on Thursday it seems that the power supply might have been working overtime to keep the ice in playing condition.

Either way, a power outage isn’t the way any team wants to start the playoffs. Bad signs and all of that.
