A couple of years ago in a Rangers-Devils playoff game, Sean Avery was doing Sean Avery things in front of Martin Brodeur, swinging his arms back and forth in an effort to distract the Hall of Fame goalie. The NHL did not find the humor in it and immediately changed the rules with what has affectionately been referred to as “the Sean Avery rule.”

On Thursday, in the first period of the Wild-Avalanche game, Colorado’s Semyon Varlamov was trying to even the score for goalies everywhere.
As Pensburgh’s Mike Darnay called it, this is the reverse Sean Avery.
