No lead is safe in these playoffs
You might be tired of hearing about two-goal leads, but we're certainly not tired of watching them evaporate. The 2014 NHL Playoffs treated us to another epic collapse on Saturday when the Bruins scored three times in five minutes to erase Montreal's two-score advantage. Eight hours later, Marian Gaborik killed off Anaheim's slim lead with seven seconds left to send the game to overtime. At this point teams should just continue pressing the attack instead of sitting on leads, because 20 two-goal leads have been blown so far this postseason. -
Marian Gaborik is an enigma no more
Gaborik has built up something of an unsavory reputation in his career, known as a supremely talented player who fails to consistently score goals like he's capable of doing. It's the reason he's bounced around from New York to Columbus to Los Angeles in recent years, but he's become resurgent with the Kings this season. Gaborik continued his run of good form with the game-tying and game-winning goals in Game 1. Gaborik could end up being the difference maker in what will be a tightly-contested series. -
Montreal can't shut the door on Boston
For the second time in as many games this series, the Canadiens blew a late lead against the Bruins. It's a shame for many reasons, but chief among them is the fact Carey Price played a terrific game on Saturday. The Canadiens can't afford to waste those performances. Not against the league's best team. -
Jonathan Quick is back to Conn Smythe form
Shame on us for doubting Quick after three ugly games against San Jose. As badly as the guy played early in that series, the former Conn Smythe Trophy winner has roared back with a vengeance. Many of his 33 saves in Game 2 were sensational, including a series of saves in the third period that unquestionably saved the game for the Kings. The Kings are not a perfect team, and they will go as far as Quick will take them. If his recent play is any indication, Quick could be taking them for a long playoff ride. -
Teemu forever
Los Angeles' comeback ensured that Selanne's third period goal wouldn't stand as the game-winner, destroying what would've been a fun narrative. The Finnish Flash doesn't quite have the same flashiness as he used to, but he proved he can still make an impact in the playoffs with that crucial goal in Game 2.
