2016 NHL outdoor games: Bruins vs. Canadiens, Wild vs. Blackhawks, Avalanche vs. Red Wings confirmed

Minnesota gets the outdoor game it desires.

The NHL’s outdoor games will feature some familiar faces in a couple of new locations in 2016.

The NHL announced on Saturday that the Minnesota Wild will host a Stadium Series game against the Chicago Blackhawks next season, to be played on February 21 at TCF Bank Stadium. The Colorado Avalanche will host an outdoor game against the Detroit Red Wings at Coors Field on February 27.

The 2016 NHL Winter Classic will be held at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. between the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens on New Years Day. The Boston area will be hosting it's second Winter Classic.

The announcement should make Wild and Avs fans happy, since both fanbases have been clamoring for an outdoors game since the first Winter Classic in 2007. For those who crave more diversity among outdoor hockey teams, the announcement is a bit disappointing. It will be the second time the Bruins and Red Wings participate in such an event, and the fourth time for the Blackhawks.
