Washington could have easily been down by a few instead of tied with Detroit 1-1 it wasn't for the stick and pads of goaltender Braden Holtby. The Capitals are lucky to be tied with the Red Wings heading into the final period of hockey, as Detroit was certainly knocking in the last few minutes.
Braden Holtby sticks away Darren Helm offering from the doorstep
The Capitals are taking a 1-1 game to the third period, and they owe it all to Holtby.

The biggest save by Holtby came in the last minute of the second. Detroit's Darren Helm was camped in front of the net and managed to deflect a puck down to himself just in front of the goal crease. With some nice stickwork, Helm got his blade of the stick on the puck, pushing it toward the wide open side. Holtby comes in clutch with the stick save, reaching out and getting just the heel of it on the puck to fire it out of harm's way.
