Pascal Dupuis taken to hospital to safeguard against possible blood clot symptoms

Dupuis will miss the Penguins’ game on Friday.

Pascal Dupuis comeback from a blood clot that cost him most of last season hit a road bump on Friday when he was admitted to a hospital as a precaution.

According to the Pittsburgh Penguins, Dupuis was “experiencing symptoms that may or may not be related to his blood clot history.”

Dupuis missed six months last season undergoing treatment (including blood thinners) for a blood clot in his lung. The 36-year-old forward was originally diagnosed with a clot in his leg, but it traveled up into his lung and required immediate attention. As the Penguins said, it's not clear whether the symptoms he was feeling Friday were related.

“We’ve said all along that Pascal’s health is the highest priority,” general manager Jim Rutherford said. “We will take every precaution necessary to ensure he is in good health.”

Dupuis just has one point (a goal) in six games this season for Pittsburgh. Dupuis wrote about his experience for The Player’s Tribune in February and explained his desire to return to the ice.

I’m 35. I know I don’t have much time left. But I’m getting out of that press box prison. I don’t care if it takes six months or a year or two years. I will get healthy. I will play in the National Hockey League again.
