Michal Neuvirth’s perfect game ruined by teammate’s skate deflection

Then it all started to unravel for Philadelphia.

Playing against the lethal offense of the Stars, it was surprising to see that Michael Neuvirth was holding a perfect game in Dallas through over 30 minutes of game play. Sure, the Flyers had allowed over 20 shots during that time span, but their backup netminder was doing solid work in between the pipes. That was until, however, the skate of Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds broke through for the Stars on an accidental own-goal deflection.

The shot from Mattias Janmark would have gone wide if Simmonds' skate wasn't in perfect position to deflect the puck up and over the pads of Neuvirth, who was sliding the opposite direction in anticipation of a deflection on that half of the ice.

Instead, the accidental skate deflection broke open the game for the Stars, who scored again three minutes later to open a 2-1 lead over Philadelphia with the last 20 minutes to play.
