It's a good day when any defender includes himself in an offensive rush, even more so when he leads it and then scores on the ensuing shot on net. Erik Johnson helped break the Avalanche's 1-1 tie against the Penguins Wednesday evening in the first period, cutting through Pittsburgh's defense in the neutral zone before picking up the goal.

The center went right to the backhand to let the shot off and Johnson, who was still speeding through the Penguins zone, connected on the deflection to send the puck high on Pittsburgh netminder Marc-Andre Fleury.
