Arizona Coyotes send 2016 NHL All-Star captain John Scott to AHL

This almost plunged the All-Star Game into chaos.

The Arizona Coyotes made the 2016 All-Star Game interesting on Wednesday, sending All-Star forward John Scott to the American Hockey League.

He did not need to clear waivers because the Coyotes already waived the All-Star talent once on Dec. 18. The move was made to make room for defenseman Kevin Connauton, whom the Coyotes claimed on waivers earlier Wednesday.

Connauton is not an All-Star this year.

All-Star John Scott was named to the All-Star Game two weeks ago as the captain of the Pacific Division team. The All-Star captain was the subject of a widespread fan vote campaign to get the winger into the All-Star game. It was wildly successful, and now John Scott is an All-Star.

It's not clear whether the All-Star forward would still be eligible for the NHL's annual game if he remained in the AHL. But that likely won't matter, as reports suggest the Coyotes are expected to make more roster moves and bring John Scott, NHL All-Star, back to the team in a few days.
