The 32-year-old captain took a hard fall into the boards Tuesday.

What looked to be a seemingly harmless hard fall into the boards has Minnesota Wild captain Mikko Koivu hospitalized, according to the team. During Minnesota's game in Columbus, Koivu took a tumble after a push from a Blue Jackets defender and fell back-first into the boards.

Koivu's head might be what is getting looked at here for the Wild center, as the back of his head takes a good portion of the fall as well. The Wild captain was down on the ice for a few moments before returning to the bench under his own power and then taken off to the hospital.

The team has no other word on the 32-year-old’s condition and depending on the outcome, Minnesota could be missing its leading scorer for longer than it would like.
