NHL playoffs Wednesday: Flyers avoid elimination with 2-1 win

Sometimes a team plays best when their back is against the wall.

It was a head-scratching challenge, as not only did there seem to be nothing glaring with the play, the war room in Toronto already reviewed it moments before. Thankfully, the wasted time out didn’t burn Gallant in the Panthers 2-1 victory.

Goaltender Martin Jones made 26 saves in the nail-biter of a game.

Though the first period held no goals, the action between the two teams was par for the course of this series so far, with the Sharks outshooting the Kings 11-8 in the first 20.

That takes some incredible hand-eye coordination to flag down the puck in the air and hit it just enough for it to settle, all the while trying to shake off the defender behind him to find the time to make those final moves.

Too bad the Stars tied the game up just mere minutes later, but what a goal this was.

The cameras were on the Gretzkys during the Flyers-Capitals game on Wednesday night, and it looks like someone wasn’t paying attention to the game. It was Wayne, who was more interested in getting a kiss.

But his wife Janet didn’t want to participate in some public smooching. And The Great One waited a little too long for a kiss, just long enough to make it awkward. Nothing a nervous smile can’t fix, right?

Despite tremendous Capitals pressure in the third period, the Flyers defense and Neuvirth were able to shut down Washington with just one goal to extend their series for at least another game.
