Scouting the Sharks
San Jose needs to figure out how to match the Penguins’ speed. And, failing that, they need to start capitalizing on their scoring chances. Coach Peter DeBoer hasn’t figured out the right matchups to slow down the Penguins’ “HBK” line, and that needs to change for the Sharks to avoid a 3-0 hole. But San Jose can take solace in the fact each game was decided by a goal, and late. If they can start converting the opportunities the Penguins give them, they have a chance.
Scouting the Penguins
Steady as she goes. From Matt Murray’s play in net, to the elevated play of their defensive corps (even after losing Trevor Daley) to the sensational performances by Phil Kessel, Sidney Crosby and their depth forwards, Pittsburgh can’t complain about anything in this series so far. But facing the Sharks on the road is a different test, and it will be interesting to see how their game translates.
