Dortmund had a six-race undefeated streak snapped when he finished in third place at the Kentucky Derby. The colt will look to get back to the winner’s circle and spoil American Pharoah’s shot at a Triple Crown in Saturday’s Preakness Stakes.
Preakness Stakes 2015: Dortmund, Firing Line trail favorite American Pharoah
Dortmund and Firing Line will continue their rivalry on Saturday and hope to upset American Pharoah in the Preakness Stakes.

After starting the week off at 4/1 to win the Preakness, Dortmund is now going off at 9/2 to win Saturday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Dortmund and Firing Line were both at 4/1 to upset American Pharoah, but steady money coming in on the favorite has bumped Dortmund’s line down, while Firing Line has stayed steady at 4/1.
The battle between Dortmund and Firing Line is one of the most compelling elements of the Preakness. Dortmund defeated Firing Line by only a head in both the Grade I Los Alamitos Futurity and the Grade III Robert B. Lewis Stakes.
However, Firing Line got the better of Dortmund in the Derby, edging out a second-place finish after the two horses spent most of the race in the lead. Both horses are going off at -115 against each other in a head-to-head prop bet on which horse will finish ahead of the other.
Of course, all eyes are still on American Pharoah, whose odds now sit at 10/13 to win the Preakness at the sportsbooks. American Pharoah already has Belmont Stakes odds posted at +100 to win and -140 not to win. Bettors can back American Pharoah to win the Triple Crown at +225, or bet against the favorite that he will fall short at -350.
With most of the betting action coming in on the three favorites, the other five horses have seen their betting value shoot up as the race gets closer. Danzig Moon and Divining Rod were each going off at 16/1 to win the Preakness earlier in the week, but Danzig Moon is down to 20/1 and Divining Rod is at 22/1. A head-to-head prop between the two has Danzig Moon as a -125 favorite to finish ahead of Divining Rod at -105.
Mr. Z’s odds have moved from 25/1 down to 33/1, while Bodhisattva (40/1) and Tale of Verve (50/1) have remained steady as the long shots for the Preakness Stakes.
